NYFW: Ballerina In Trending
The day before New York Fashion Week turned the city upside down, Anna Wintour turned things up by co-hosting a collection of fashions modeled by principal dancers from the New York City Ballet. A few runways later, Cartier also had ballet dancers modeling and entertaining at their after party. Fashion Week saw plenty of pirouettes coming down the catwalk from various designers who decided to feature them in their shows and presentations. It was said that several collections shown were designed with dancers in mind.
I’ve never been much of a dancer myself, unless you count the occasional girls night at the club or impromptu twerking class I got from some strippers in Vegas – but that’s another story. But that’s not going to stop me from being on pointe when it comes to this trend. Ballerinas are feminine, precise, classic, and strong. No matter what your style is, I believe every woman has a delicate ballerina within and I love the idea of bringing that element of us out via fashion.
These ballet inspired pieces are close enough to the real thing. My advice is to choose 1-2 pieces tops, to avoid looking costume. I’m all for the juxtaposition of soft and rough, for example a baby pink bodysuit with a pair of distressed jeans.
Try stirrup leggings, bodysuits, lace-up flats, satin chokers!
